Adelina's blend of Shiraz (68%) and Mataro (32%) was grown in the Springfarm sub-area of the Clare Valley, with the Mataro and a portion of the Shiraz fruit coming from the famed Aberfeldy Vineyard, plus a little Adelina Estate fruit. 60-70% of this wine comes from vines with an age of around 100 years!
Delicious, mouth-filling dark fruit, flavours that last an age, rich in texture though refined to finish. A sophisticated rich South Australian red wine of extreme value.

    Producer

The Gardner family has owned the Spring Farm Estate, which is the site of both the Adelina winery and vineyards, since 1986. Prior to the inception of Adelina Wines in 2000, the property was managed by Will and Elaine Gardner, and the fruit was sold to Tim Adams. In 2002, Col McBryde and Jen Gardner, Will and Elaine’s daughter, took over responsibility for the vineyards and launched Adelina wines which are made exclusively from the Estate vineyards. The pair has been involved in winemaking and research since the mid-90s.

    Region

South Australia’s Clare Valley, besides being one of Australia’s prettiest wine regions, is ground-zero for Riesling and a large selection of the countries finest examples. Approximately 120km north of Adelaide, the Clare Valley boasts a great diversity of soil types and a number of famous sub-regions along its length such as Polish Hill River, Watervale, Leasingham, Sevenhill and the Skillogalee Valley. Clare Valley Riesling is vivid in its purity, always having a reputation for being very precise and driven, though in recent times, we are seeing some producers play with skin contact and seasoned oak adding to the regions interest. It isn’t only white varieties that shine in the Clare with Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz do particularly well and it is the home of the stellar red wines of Australian wine royalty, Wendouree. Local Knowledge: The breakfast ramen at ‘`Seed’ in Clare with a glass of German Kabinett Riesling is a stroke of genius.

So much to like from the Adelina stable of wines.

Medium weight, fine tannins, layers of spice, restrained red and blue berry fruitiness, a web of Italianate tannins and herbs and brambly savouriness rolled in. It sits tight and dart-shaped in the palate, draws exceptionally long, feels not for now but later yet still has a compelling thing to it that asks you to keep at your glass. Dark-sour cherry, amaro, clove all happening. Superb wine here, all structure and yet all appeal.

There's a wealth of vibrant dark plums here with a deep, herb and asphalt edge as well. The palate carries a very plush, fresh and lively feel with impressive depth and elegance. A blend of 68% shiraz and 32% mataro. Drink or hold.
