There’s a hint of talc and Provencal lavender and some vibrant herb aromas with a tight, intense mid-palate that features pure lime juice flavours. Mouth-puckering with a hint of lemon pith and shaley minerality, it’s long, uber-dry and memorable. While plenty love the youthful tight structure and restraint of ‘Polish Hill’, others will prefer it after a few years in the cellar. It has the potential for significant aging.

Grosset is everything good about the wine industry, their place in Clare Valley history, their philosophy on winemaking, the vision they carry for the next generation and of course wines themselves are what every winery wishes they could strive for. Founder Jeffrey Grosset established Grosset in 1981, it's still proudly a family run operation, focusing on making wines with 'pure expressions of variety and place' (his words, not ours). The family and team carefully have tended the four estate-owned vineyards to achieve Certified Organic ‘A-Grade’ status, a feat that says much about themselves as the land custodians as it does about the quality of the wines. They align this care and attention of the vineyard with non-interventional winemaking practices bottling the finished wines without filtration aids or fining agents at the winery that Jeffrey designed himself. World class Riesling makes up 70 percent of their entire 11,000-case production each year. Less than 25% makes it overseas - lucky for us. Something that sets Grosset apart is the desire to always do the right thing, by the land, by the wine and simply as humans. They've taken their success, experience and expertise to set up the Grosset Gaia Fund, a fund that invests in sustainable organisations with positive environmental impacts alongside Arts, Community and Health projects.

South Australia’s Clare Valley, besides being one of Australia’s prettiest wine regions, is ground-zero for Riesling and a large selection of the countries finest examples. Approximately 120km north of Adelaide, the Clare Valley boasts a great diversity of soil types and a number of famous sub-regions along its length such as Polish Hill River, Watervale, Leasingham, Sevenhill and the Skillogalee Valley. Clare Valley Riesling is vivid in its purity, always having a reputation for being very precise and driven, though in recent times, we are seeing some producers play with skin contact and seasoned oak adding to the regions interest. It isn’t only white varieties that shine in the Clare with Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz do particularly well and it is the home of the stellar red wines of Australian wine royalty, Wendouree. Local Knowledge: The breakfast ramen at ‘`Seed’ in Clare with a glass of German Kabinett Riesling is a stroke of genius.
