Muscadet’s renaissance continues—thanks in no small part to the wines of this tireless, pioneering grower. Jo Landron’s La Louvetrie cuvée originates from soils rich in amphibolite, but also sand, clay and gneiss. It remains the Estate’s only wine made from a blend of different sites (including younger vine fruit from Landron’s top vineyards). It is regardless a blinder of a Muscadet, packed full of juicy, racy fruit and vibrant Atlantic zing. The vines for this release are 15-30 years old and cropped low (for Muscadet) at just 50hl/hectare. It’s bottled with a low dose of sulphur after between 8-12 months élevage. More than ever, this is Muscadet's answer to Pfalz Riesling: there’s fine texture but also great precision to the zesty, pithy, lemon/lime fruit and complex iodine notes. It’s fantastically vibrant and racy across the palate, with oodles of compact fruit and a cool finish that crackles with stony, savoury length.

At the heart of France, the Loire Valley is an area with distinct variation between the five wine producing regions. Beginning in the West towards the Atlantic sea and moving progressively eastwards the first region for discussion is The Pays Nantais which has been producing wines since Roman times and typically famous for Muscadet. Further east is Anjou which is notable for the production of Chenin Blanc based wines such as Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume. Saumur lies in the centre of this east-west axis and is the home of Saumur-Champigny Cabernet Franc red wines. Further on we arrive at Touraine, famed for but not limited to Vouvray as the region also produces notable Gamay and Sauvignon Blanc. Lastly, the Centre-Loire which is notable for Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé.
