Roccheviberti's Cru Rocche di Castiglione comes from one of the smallest vineyards in Barolo, measuring just about 5 acres. This wine is made from 30-year-old vines planted at 1000 feet with a southern exposure. The juice is fermented in steel, aged in French oak barrels for 2-3 years, then another year in the bottle. Though 2013 is a bit young, you can decant this Barolo and serve it with your next stew, game, or roast. Only 600 cases made. Stitched with cherry, currant and rose aromas and flavors, picking up licorice, tar and iron accents as this unfolds on the palate. This is held together by a firm, finely detailed structure, fading gracefully, with a superb and long finish.
