Another fantastic release from Spinifex - again, as always, combining all the seductive flavours found Barossa reds yet with a sophistication and refinement only found in the world's best wines. Here the 2018 Esprit is composed of Grenache (51%) Mataro (40%) and Shiraz (4%) from five exclusive old vine vineyards located Ebenezer, Moppa and Eden Valley. Vineyard ages range from between 65 and 160 years(!). All fruit was hand harvested. Unfined and unfiltered. Vegan friendly. A perfumed, aromatically deep Barossa red displaying a bright core of red cherry, tart raspberry, plum and tamarillo framed by both high toned dried rose petal and violet florals, and hazlenut, mace and blonde tobacco spice elements.
A medium weight and focussed palate with spiced plum, rhubarb and cherry flavours on attack turn to darker fruits and savoury, fresh drying tannin and plum skin like acids. Delicious.

"Really beautiful and floral on the nose with dried flowers, as well as sage, highlighting the pretty berry character. Full-bodied, tight and chewy with lovely fruit and freshness. Linear centre palate. A blend of 56% Grenache, 40% Mataro and 4% Shiraz. Drink or hold."

"56% grenache, 40% mataro, 4% shiraz. A distinctly spicy bouquet, and the medium-bodied palate plays follow the leader, plush and welcoming, neither tannin nor oak doing anything more - this leaves the spicy, juicy palate free to roam across the palate."

Grenache. No 2016 or 2017 Esprit. Mataro and shiraz fill out the blend. Old vines (150-year-old plus for grenache). Good times. Very smart wine.
Earthy, savoury bouquet with dried but fresh-feeling berry fruits, some dark chocolate notes, but faint, black jelly bean and anise. The palate is supple, draws long to a fine pucker, feels a bit ’emery board texture’ and shows some inky concentration though the wine rides high on cool acidity. It’s quite an elegant wine at the same time as being a bit rugged, in the best sense. I like this.
