Every year this is one of the most delicious and best value Barossa Shiraz to hit the market. Aged primarily in older American and French oak, unlike most entry level wines which are aged in tank with oak ‘alternatives’. Bottled earlier than the other Tim Smith Shiraz wines to provide a wine that is fruit forward, with the older oak providing a countering oak tannin balance to the palate.

Such juiciness with a bit more energy is how I’m seeing many 2018 Barossa reds. Perfumed and juicy, almost an Earl Grey tea thing happening, black and red fruits, subtle vanilla oak. Medium bodied, fleshy and juicy cherry/berry flavour, soft powdery tannin, balanced acidity, and a good finish. Fun, easy-going, and top drinking.
