45% Grenache, 30% Shiraz, 25% Mataro. Pedro was inspired by the light and bright “lunchtime” wines found in bistro’s throughout the Rhone Valley. Surprisingly dark in colour with the wild expression only no sulphur wines can give – all red fruits, lifted forest undergrowth and exotic spice. The palate is again surprisingly rich and full with vibrant naturally sweet flavours exploding in the mouth before being reigned in by whole bunch grip and fresh acidity. Drinking brilliantly now or for the next couple of years.

    Producer

For a small winemaker, Woods Crampton has been able to achieve a lot in a small amount of time. “The straight men of the Barossa new wave” Woods Crampton makes contemporary and balanced wines, a world away from the jammy fruit bombs of the past. These are balanced, wonderfully flavoursome and well made wines of superb value.

The range includes a ladder of old vine Barossa Shiraz, complex and thought provoking blends and alternate varietals that may be the future of the valley.

    Region

Australia’s most famous wine region is known for many things. Gnarled, ancient bush-vines and big bold wines. The depth and concentration of its Shiraz, the perfume and line of its Grenache and the spice and meaty heft of its Mataro, or indeed a blend of all three and admired across the globe. But it is a region that is evolving. Sub-regional nuance is being explored and celebrated, alcohol and oak levels have retreated, alternative varieties have been embraced and wine styles span from the concentrated classics to natty numbers. In short; the Barossa is going through a renaissance and in the process, rediscovering itself and confidently paving its path into the future. 20% whole bunches, unoaked, preservative free.

Lovely wine. So much spice, flow, fragrance. It’s like taking a big jump into a box full of woodsy spice and pot pourri. Just so much deliciousness. Worth every cent. It opens a bit grumpy straight from the bottle but 15 minutes later and it really starts to sing.
